It’s Friday night. And what’s better on a sunny Friday night then a hamburger and fries? I will tell you what is better. A homemade burger on a homemade bun with homemade fries. Yum!I just made some regular burgers. I used my bread machine for the bun recipe (I still had to roll them into balls, put the egg wash, etc.)
I used my trusty fry cutter that I found years ago at a garage sale. Because everyone NEEDS a fry cutter. Really they do.
As you can seen, I don’t peel my potatoes. I did give them a good wash though with my handy Norwex Fruit and Veggie Cloth though. I also only had medium red potatoes on hand. I am sure there is some rule about using russet potatoes, but whatever.
After cutting the fries you are supposed to soak them in water for a while. Apparently it makes them crisper or something. I took the internet’s word for it and soaked them in the fridge in water for a few hours.
The next part was the fun and messy part. I made a nice french fry coating. I loosely followed this one here. I had to double it and use way more water than suggested. I added some spices like garlic, salt and paprika (I don’t have onion salt, wtf?) and I mixed it together to form a mostly runny batter. Then I put some fries in, took the fries out and fried them in a pan with oil on the stove. They were delicious. Worth the huge oil mess and lingering fried oil smell. I don’t recommend doing it right before company comes over, but if you must, have your air freshener handy or your Scentsy! I love my Scentsy.
