January Luxe Box Review

The January Luxe Box was a little bit late – they had sent out an email explaining it would be last due to problems out of their control (companies not sending the samples fast enough) but they upgraded everyone to express shipping. It came pretty fast once it shipped. I got it last week but I am in a bit behind in my posting. It was well worth the wait. OMG! My best Luxe Box yet and better than January’s Glymm Box.

First of all I noticed the box this month seemed a little bigger than normal and when I opened it up I found…

January Luxe Box Review

Not one, but TWO Luxe Boxes! I was almost squealing with delight. Okay, Okay I was.

The first box opened was the white one, it was a Bath and Body Luxe Box.

January Luxe Box Review - White Box

Schick Hydro Silk 5 Blade Razor (retail $13.99)
Fekkai Olive Oil Shampoo & Conditioner Packs
Coupons ($4.00 of any Schick Hydro Refill, $0.55 off any Skinmate Shave Gel, 8000 (worth $10) Shoppers Drug Mart Bonus Points when you buy any Fekkai Hair Care Product)

I haven’t tried any of the things from the Bath and Body box yet, but I know they are going to be amazing – especially the Schick Hydro Silk 5 Blade Razor. Really looking forward to trying it.

Box 2 – Regular Luxe Box

January Luxe Box Review - Black Box

Yves Rocher Rouge Dragee Lipstick full size 3.5g $5
Benefit Farenheit Fab full size 4.5g $19
Chi Silk Fusion 15ml (full size 180ml $33)
Seattle’s Best Coffee Level Three (BONUS) 56g (full size 340g $9.99)

Loose Button – MyScent
Prada Candy 1.5ml (full size 50ml $96)
Prada Infusion d’Iris 1.5ml (full size 50ml $95)
Nina Ricci L’Air du Temps 1.2ml (full size 50ml $72)
Nina Ricci Nina 1.2ml (full size 50ml $65)
Paco Rabanne Black XS for Her 1.2ml (full size 50ml $65)
Paco Rabanne Lady Million 1.2ml (full size 50ml $80)

Two full size products worth a combined value of $24 – twice the price of my Luxe Box subscription. Totally awesome. The Benefit Farenheit Fab was part of their First In Line Program. Basically they sent out an email with 4 things and told you to pick the one you hoped to see in your Luxe Box. You got to pick from:
– Donna Karan – Cashmere Mist Body Cleansing Lotion
– Benefit – POWda WOWza
– Curly Hair Solution – Curl Keeper Total Control for Frizzy Hair
Benefit – Fahrenheit Fab – Creaseless Cream Eyeshadow & Liner

I saw some people on their Facebook complaining that they went two hours after the email was sent out and stuff was already sold out. But I went 8 hours after I got mine and didn’t have any trouble.

The Benefit – Fahrenheit Fab – Creaseless Cream Eyeshadow & Liner is wonderful! I typically don’t wear eye shadow on a daily basis (just eye liner and mascara, save eyeshadow for special occasions) but I made an exception to try this. I did use a bit of a Lise Watier Makeup Base For Eyes and Lips underneath and it lasted a good 12 hours with only very minimal creasing and wearing off. It is a very nice light gold shimmery colour – very beautiful and my favourite. Totally a colour I would pick out for myself. I normally don’t wear eye shadow because it creases and makes my eye lids feel gross but this stuff totally didn’t do that (maybe it was the combo with the eye primer) but it was great. I see myself wearing it often. The only thing that was a bit frustrating – there was nothing to apply it with, guess you are supposed to use your fingers. I would probably buy it again, just depends how long it lasts I guess. I don’t typically spend $19 on eye shadow but I have before.

The Yves Rocher Rouge Dragee Lipstick is really great too! I am not a lip stick girl but this stuff was nice. It went on nice, it was a great colour and it didn’t leave that gross lipstick smell/taste on your lips. It didn’t stay on that long but I still really liked it. And $5 regular price sounds great too – the last time I bought a regular lip stick it was $12! I could totally see myself buying this if I needed more.

I really like the Chi Silk Fusion – it makes my hair feel so nice and soft. I have often thought about buying it before but never have. I probably will at some point – if I ever use up my collection of hair oil products I already have on the go.

The Seattle’s Best Coffee Level Three was great too! The package provided made two smallerish pots and kept me going at work. There was also $1.00 off coupon in the box to buy more. I think I just might have to.

As for the perfume sample I haven’t decided if there is one I LOVE but I did enjoy a few. I probably wouldn’t buy any. I have a perfume allergy to some perfumes so I have to be careful. I really like light and fruity scents – they don’t seem to bother me. My absolute favourite is Eternity Summer (almost any year) and a close second is Lisa Watier Désirable. I also enjoy Ckin2u Her. Funny that I can wear Eternity Summer but any other Eternity leaves me with severe allergies all day. Anyway onto the Luxe Box fragrances.

The two Nina fragrances were in last months box. I really don’t like the Nina Ricci L’Air du Temps I put a bit on last month and it was all I could smell until I had a shower, it really bothered me and was happy to get it off so I didn’t try it again.

I did like both the Prada Candy and Nina Ricci Nina – I would wear the samples again but not sure I would buy them. I really liked the Paco Rabanne Lady Million when I first sprayed it on, but it quickly faded into something that was just alight.

I liked the Paco Rabanne Black XS for Her but found it was all I could smell all day and it left a bit of a tickle in a throat. Probably not one I would wear again. But the smell was nice until it started buging me.

The Prada Infusion d’Iris smelled alright, a bit indifferent to me and after 5 days of wearing different perfumes I think they are all starting to smell the same. I liked that this sample was full – it was the only full sample of the 6. The rest were half full or less. I didn’t like that is the only sample without a little spraying. It was tough to open and I even spilled a bit while being careful. And it was hard to apply. Defiantly prefer the little spray bottles.

I would say this month was DEFIANTLY worth it – I figure everything combined is worth around $45. And all I paid was $12! Sign up for next month’s Luxe Box HERE!

I am really looking forward to the February box. It should ship next week!

January Glymm Box Review

My Glymm box came last week, it was really the only thing I got in the mail all week – other then some coupons.

January Glymm Box
January Glymm Box

Kaia Naturals Juicy Bamboo Cleansing Cloths 1 cloth (full size 30 cloths/$17.99)
Vasanti Cosmetics BrighgtenUp! Face Rejuvenator 12g (full size 120ml $34.00)
Anastasia Beverly Hills Clean Brow Gel 0.085 fl oz (full size 0.28oz $21.00)
Burt’s Bees Nourishing Milk & Honey Lotion 2 x 7ml (full size 170g $12.99)
Cargo Cosmestics Eye Pencil Wood – FULL SIZE 2g $16.00

The Kaia Naturals Juicy Bamboo Cleansing Cloths sound really great but I think it will be hard to tell with only one cloth. Also, they are pretty expensive. Even the more expensive ones in Walmart don’t cost as much. I usually buy the ones at Dollarama – you get 25 for $1.25 plus tax. You really can not beat the price and they work pretty good. Looking forward to trying this one but really don’t see myself spending almost $20 with tax on one month of cleaning cloths; that is about how much I spend on them in an entire year right now.

Probably won’t use the Cargo Cosmestics Eye Pencil. The colour is “wood” a very pale brown/tan colour. I normally use black or even dark brown eyeliner and this is just way too pale. I saw that these are also good for eyebrow pencils but that doesn’t work for me either because mine are almost black. Some people were lucky and got black but all well – that’s the fun of a surprise box!

I really like the Anastasia Beverly Hills Clean Brow Gel. It makes my eyebrows look great and doesn’t make them too hard and crunchy. Thinking about buying one of these – hoping I can get one more referral before tomorrow so I can combine 100 points with the $10 promo code from the December box, thus making it only $7 (and free shipping!). The card in the box says it is $21, but it is $27 on the site. :( So if you are thinking about joining Glymm and want to help another girl out, here is my referral link. Dont forgot you also get 100 points for signing up with my link and that is good for $10! If you sign up before the end of tomorrow you could probably use the $10 promo code too (giving you $20 to spend), it is GIFT4U but is only good until the end of tomorrow.

Haven’t tried the Vasanti Cosmetics BrighgtenUp! Face Rejuvenator or Burt’s Bees Nourishing Milk & Honey Lotion yet, but I will tonight/tomorrow and come back and update. The little cardboard things of the lotion seem kind of cheesy and cheap, not any better than perfume samples in my opinion but I have heard it is nice lotion.

There was also a card in the box with a promo code for a free RMS Beauty Lip Shine in the colour Bloom with any Glymm store purchase. I was pretty frustrated by this. The day I got my box I tried to place an order but the website didn’t work. I tried on multiple computers and multiple browsers and never could order. I sent in an email and still almost a week later haven’t heard anything about that problem. The next morning I tried to order on ANOTHER computer/browser combo and finally got it to work – only to find out they were out of lip shines. I was a little upset because for one, lots of people hadn’t even got their box yet and they were out of them. And their website didn’t even work so I could order. I saw lots of people on their Facebook having problems with the website too and Glymm never did address it – there were a lot of angry people. Anyway, the next day they had more lip shines in stock (go figure) so I was able to order and get my free lip shine; all was well in the end. I was able to place my order for free – I just had to pay tax and shipping. Thanks to my awesome Glymm points! That order will hopefully be here by the end of this week so I can post about it.

Anyway, I would say this month’s Glymm box was sort of worth it. The Anastasia Beverly Hills Clean Brow Gel is worth around $8 for the size and the full size eye pencil (even if I won’t use it) is worth $16. So you I did get my money’s worth.

Disclosure: I just want to add that these opinions are my own, I am in no way affiliated with Glymm or earn anything for these posts (ie. I am not paid). The only benefit I get is 50 points, if one of you use my referral linkthank you to those who have – I really appreciate it.

UPDATE 01/31/12 – tried the last couple things this morning. The Vasanti Cosmetics BrighgtenUp! Face Rejuvenator felt amazing, the tiny little micro scrubbers were just perfect. I could totally see myself buying this. Years ago I used a similar feeling face wash, but for the life of me I can’t remember the name. The full size is a little pricy but you only need a VERY small amount.

I did not like the Burt’s Bees Nourishing Milk & Honey Lotion – it smells gross and took a while to massage into my skin. I felt like the lotion could of been a bit thicker or something, I dunno. Once it was all rubbed in it felt fine, but I wouldn’t buy this because of the smell alone – plus the St. Ives feels and smells much nicer and sells for 1/4 of the price (when on sale.) I also tried the Cargo Cosmestics Eye Pencil on my top eye lid this morning, the colour was still bad – you can hardly see it but it went on nice. Definitely wouldn’t buy, least not in Wood colour.

Shopping with Gymm Points: Principessa Beauty – Bacio Me Lip Balm Tube

When you sign up for a monthly Glymm box using a referral link you get 100 Glymm Points that is good for $10 on their online website. I decide to try out shopping with them and it was pretty good. I was a little disappointed in the shipping cost of a lip balm, it probably would of been close to the same price to find this stuff in stores even with using my points but I decided to order it anyway.

The Principessa Beauty – Bacio Me Lip Balm Tube sells for $11.00 on the Glymm websites. Using my 100 points from signing up it brought the cost down to $1.00. With shipping and taxes it ended up costing me $8.98 – so I did save a bit of money. But $6 to ship a lip balm seemed a bit high to me.

I ordered it on November 23rd and received it on December 7th. (yes, this post is a little late…)

Shopping with Gymm Points: Principessa Beauty - Bacio Me Lip Balm Tube
No wonder it was $6 for shipping! Look at the size of that box. What a waste. The little paper bits actually came in handy later for wrapping a present though.

Principessa Beauty - Bacio Me Lip Balm Tube
Seriously, HUGE box for a little lip balm.

Huge box aside I was happy with how fast they shipped it, especially close to Christmas. And the Glymm points program is awesome from what I have seen so far. The Principessa Beauty – Bacio Me Lip Balm Tube itself isn’t bad. It smells really nice and goes on nice but it doesn’t last, at all. I feel like I need to constantly reapply it. I was hoping it would last a little bit for its regular price of $11.00 – and all the reviews I read were great. But I feel like it doesn’t stay on your lips long enough to really help them. Unless you put it on every few minutes – but it does have a really nice light sweet smell.

If you are looking to sign up for a monthly Glymm box here is my referral link – if you don’t use a link you will not get the 100 points. If you know a friend with Glymm you can ask them for their link too, using their link will give them 50 points as well.

Happy Glymm point shopping!

December Glymm Box Review

This was my first Glymm box so I am not sure what I was expecting but I am happy with it. The only disappointing thing really was that I got two hand creams, getting two in one box is a bit disappointing but not the end of the world. The idea is to try new stuff. The perfume sample was a bit meh too, especially after getting two in my Luxe Box. Also, my sister got a really cute perfume sample in hers in this cute box and in a cute little bottle – I really liked the way hers was packaged. I did like that the box had a full size lip gloss.

December Glymm Box Review

Caudalie Hand and Nail Cream 15ml (full size 75ml $19)
Ahava Mineral Hand Cream 0.68fl oz (full size 3.4oz $20)
Yves Saint Laurent Parisienne Eau de Parfum (full size 50ml $75)
Sula Beauty Natural Lip Gloss full size Secret Crush 0.5fl oz $8
Lise Watier Ampoule Flash Life Eclat 1ml (bonus? wasn’t on my card)
$10 Gylmm Gift Card
Jelly Bellys (yum!)

The Ahava Mineral Hand Cream has a nice smell to it haven’t tried it yet though. The perfume smells alright.

Eventually I am going to have to decide what box I like better, getting two every month seems a bit silly.

I did like the $10 card in this month’s box, thinking about seeing if I can combine that with some of my Glymm Points and order myself something free on their website store. I like free! I already ordered a free lip gloss with some of my points. Do really like their points system.

If you sign up for your own Glymm Box using my referral link you will get 100 points to start your account off, 100 points is equal to $10! That is what I used to order my lip gloss. :)

December Loose Button Luxe Box Review

At first I was pretty disappointed with this month’s Luxe Box, well I guess I still kind of am. At first glance it looks really great and full of nice size products and it is, but this is what got me.

The Moroccanoil stuff was to make up for sending out an expired product last month – that I am going to use anyway. It doesn’t really go bad.

From the email Loose Button sent out:

As a token of our appreciation and to compensate for any inconvenience this may have caused to you, we are sending you a Moroccanoil Luminous Hairspray and a special something in your next box, as a replacement for the expired Hydrating Styling Cream.

It was nice to see a full size product in the box, but really it’s only a basic $4 eye liner. And two perfume samples? Did they really need to send two? These are like the ones you get free in the drug store. The face cream looks nice and according to a card in the box it is worth $41 for the sample size. To me it feels like all I really got was a $4 eye liner and a face cream (thought expensive!) since the Moroccanoil was a “bonus” for the screw up last month and the perfume samples are free most places.

December Loose Button Luxe Box Review

DDF Advanced Firming Cream 14g (full size 48g $140)
Moroccanoil Luminous Hairspray 75ml (full size 300ml $24)
Moroccanoil Moisture Repair Shampoo 70ml (full size 240ml $22)
Moroccanoil Moisture Repair Conditioner 70ml (full size 240ml $21)
Nina Ricci L’Air du Temps Perfume 1.2ml (full size 50ml $72)
Nina Ricci Nina Fragrance 1.2ml (full size 50ml $65)
NYX Slim Eye Pencil Black full size 1g $4
Belgian Chocolate

The box was still nice, and I will keep my subscription (read a lot of people cancelling on Facebook) but it was a bit disappointing. After looking on their Facebook some people got worse and some people got a lot better – it seems like if you pay for a year in advance you get better boxes. Not sure what to think about that.

I think the November Luxe Box was actually better – I would of thought the special “Holiday Edition” box would had more “WOW” – maybe my expectations were too high? Probably.

I honestly haven’t tried anything for the November box, this one or my Glymm box yet! I need to get on that ASAP. Not sure what I am waiting for. The point is to try this stuff! I did smell it at least. The Moroccanoil stuff smells nice and the perfumes aren’t bad – like the Nina one better the other one is a little floral. And I do use black eye liner all the time – hopefully it goes on nice.

1 Cent Julep Maven Beauty Box – December It Girl Review

This is another subscription service much like Luxe Box and Glymm (December reviews coming soon) but based [mostly] around nail polishes. This is the first time I have received this box and I paid only 1 penny for it and that included shipping! How awesome is that? It came today and I only ordered it on the 19th, seemed pretty fast to me.

There is a couple cool things about the Julep Maven boxes, the main one – they have different boxes to choose from and you get to see what is in the box you are picking! I like the idea of surprises but it is also nice to pick out your nail polish colours in advance. The only downfall, a girl can only have so much nail polish – at least this girl anyway.

You can also change to different boxes depending on your mood each month. You also get the option to skip month(s) if you need to. Pretty handy.

December Julep Maven It Girl
1 Cent Julep Maven Beauty Box - December It Girl Review

Kim – dark, gunmetal grey
Helena – ultra-saturated fuchsia
Chloe – charcoal base with a magenta sparkle
Top Coat
Green Glitter
2ml Age Defying Hand Brightener
2ml SPF 30 hand cream

I think this is possibly the best one cent I have ever spent!

November Loose Button Luxe Box Review

I mentioned previously that I received my Luxe Box by Loose Button. I figured it is the last day of the month now and it should be safe to review without ruining any surprises for anyone.

November Luxe Box by Loose Button

This is the first Luxe Box I have revived and I LOVED it. Really impressed and look forward to receiving more. I also signed up for Glymm Box this month and will be receiving my first one of that next month. One quick note about Glymm Box, if you sign up using my link you get 100 bonus points and that is good for $10 off a full size product. You don’t have to use my link but I am mentioning because no one told me and I am sad that I missed out on my free $10!

Back to my Luxe Box.

November Loose Button Luxe Box Review

What’s Inside:

Lisa Watier Plumpissimo Le Gloss 1.1ml in Nude (full size: 6.2ml $20)
Dermalogica Skin Prep Scrub 22ml (full size 75ml $32)
Moroccanoil Styling Cream 75ml (full size 250ml $32)
Benefit Cosmetics B. Right! Moisture Prep Toning Lotion 8.9ml (full size 177.4ml $29)
BONUS: Teaopia Cactus Fig Tea Kit (full size 50g $7)

I have actually bought the Lisa Watier Plumpissimo Le Gloss in Nude before! It is an amazing lip gloss! The box was so cute and put together so nicely. I like how they personalize the boxes and I notice that people get different variations of the boxes. It is fun to see what everyone else got. The box includes a cute little card telling you about everything you got. So fun.

The Moroccanoil Styling Cream is expired but Moroccanoil and Loose Button are making up for it next month – it was so nice of them to send out an email to let us know. I actually haven’t tried anything in the box yet… not sure what I am waiting for, I better get on that because soon I am going to have TWO boxes!
